Play area development

Our main project at the moment is developing a play area on a piece of wasteland in between St Catherines Court and Vinnicombe Court.

This will consist of a small football area and an under 7’s area incorperating a climbing frame, a spinner, a mini butterfly see-saw and a ball maze play panel. In the future and fundraising permitting we hope to add a 2 bay swing.

It will only be a small play area but it will give the children somewhere safe to play on the actual estate, suitable especially for the younger children and busy mums who have not got the time to hike to the bigger parks further away.

Progress reports

In September we made the first start on the project by having a tree removed. What a proud moment! Please do not worry about the loss of the tree we will plant a much prettier one somewhere else in the estate to replace it!

November started with C & W Fencing LTD from Manningtree Essex coming in and erecting 60 meters of 2.4 meter high chain link fence which has sectioned off the football area. As soon as we can we will rotovate the land and put some grass seed down once this has established we will install the goal posts.

We are currently applying for funding for the under 7's area from the Local Network Fund and we will find out very soon if we are successful.

Updated December 8th - The funding from Suffolk ACRE's Local Network Fund has been approved. Today I had a final meeting with Playdale just to make sure that everything is OK and work should start in the 2-3 week in January - watch this space!!

Updated 25 January - the under 7's area has now been installed by Bertie and Jake from Playdale and it was completed yesterday. We just need to complete the football area now, which we hope to do very soon.

Our sincere thanks go to Suffolk ACRE's Local Network Fund for awarding us £7,000, to Councillor Rawlingson who gave us £5,000 out of his locality budget, our residents who partook in the Newlarks 'play area lottery' syndicate, Mr Brown and Bob Faulkner who each donated £20 to make this project possible.
