Suffolk’s first Glitter Ball for people with disabilities takes
place this Saturday (10th May)
The Glitter Ball 2008 is a unique and exciting event for anyone
with a physical, sensory or learning disability, taking place at
the Trinity Rooms at Suffolk Showground, Ipswich. The evening will
involve art, cabaret, delicious food, dance performances and
dancing.
The glitzy, glamorous Glitter Ball begins with an opening
reception of canapés, cocktails and an Art Exhibition with all the
pictures by artists with disabilities from local charity Genesis.
This is followed by a delicious two course meal. Then it’s time for
entertainment exclusively created and performed by actors and
dancers with disabilities. First is Comedy Cabaret ‘Night Out’,
followed by Dance East’s Spin Off group performing a funky dance
number. Famed party band Soul Kitchen will then play lots of great
music hits as the dancing commences.
Laura Kerr from Glitter Events said “We were approached by
members of the disabled community to offer them something
different. The Glitter Ball event will not only provide the
disabled community with an evening of entertainment and
inspiration, but will also provide a platform for the performers
themselves to show off their skills.
“We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from
the community - from volunteers, the local council and all the
people involved in every stage. We are thrilled with the grant from
Awards for All as it reinforces the importance of this event and
enables us to give these people a night they won’t forget. We’d
also like to thank all our sponsors for their support.”
There are still a few tickets available for the event and anyone
interested should call Lynda Skelton or Sue Phillips on 01379
873666 as soon as possible.
