How Adult Learners can make a Splash this Summer

Mid-Suffolk Everyone Active Leisure Centre at Stowmarket and Stradbroke’s Everyone Active Swimming Pool in partnership with Sport England and the Amateur Swimming Association, has launched a new campaign to help adults get in the swim for summer and cut the cost of sessions at a stroke.

Adults who sign up for the new “Learn To Swim” course at the Pool, will qualify for free swimming during any of the Swim For All sessions, saving them up to £3 a time.

The new course which starts in April, costs just £10 and is part of a Suffolk-wide initiative to encourage more non-swimmers to learn, helping them to exercise and get fit as part of a healthier lifestyle.

Anselm Gurney, General Manager at centre at Gainsborough Road, Stowmarket, said:“One in ten adults cannot swim, which means they are missing out on a lot of family fun, particularly at weekends and during holiday periods.

“They are also missing an excellent opportunity for good all-round exercise which will help keep them toned and fit,” he said.

“If they cannot swim there is also the prospect that their children may not learn to swim either, and we want to encourage everybody to take up this life-saving skill.”

The scheme is open to adults aged over 18 who are beginners and the course lasts for three months.

Sessions at the Stowmarket centre are Mondays 8.15-9.00pm, Wednesdays 2.45-3.30pm (ladies only), Thursdays 2.15-3.00pm (50+), and Sundays 7.00-7.45pm. Sessions at Stradbroke Pool are on Monday evenings from 8pm to 8.30pm or Fridays from 11.30am to noon.

The scheme is open to adults aged over 18 who are beginners and the course lasts for three months.

The centres are two of more than 50 local authority sports and leisure centres throughout the UK which are managed by private sports and leisure management company SLM.
