A new project which aims to get more disabled people in West
Suffolk into the gym to improve their fitness and health is being
launched in Bury St Edmunds on Monday (31 March).
The Health Inclusion Programme (HIP) is being co-ordinated by
disability charity Optua in partnership with the West Suffolk Local
Strategic Partnership, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Forest Heath
District Council and Babergh District Council.
The project is aimed at providing disabled people aged over 18
with a personal tailored fitness programme in their local gym.
The HIP will be running from Monday 31 March at Bury St Edmunds
Leisure Centre’s gymnasium on Mondays from 2pm and 4pm and Fridays
between 11am and 1pm. The initiative involves a 24-week programme
tailored to suit the individual needs of those taking part.
The programme is available to anyone aged over 18 living in the
Bury St Edmunds area with a disability.
The cost is £1 per session for up to three sessions per week and
a concessionary card is also provided to reduce the costs of using
the leisure centre for other activities.
HIP will also be running at the following locations:
- Kingfisher Leisure Centre, Sudbury
- Great Cornard Leisure Centre
- Brandon Leisure Centre
- Mildenhall Leisure Centre
- Newmarket Leisure Centre
