Members of the North West Ipswich Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT)
will be even more visible from now on, thanks to generous support
from a local company – West Engineering.
The team approached the Whitehouse Employers Association with
the aim of gaining sponsorship for a number of team bicycles for
patrolling their area.
As a result of the meeting, a number of companies expressed an
interest in assisting but the Managing Director of West Engineering
– Dale Smith wished to donate £250 for a whole bike.
The team approached a number of local bike dealers but Darren
Thomas at Cycle Revolution on Foxhall Road offered the best deal by
providing a £350 bike for £250.
The bike was bought on Wednesday 9th April 2008 and
has already been put to good use. The bike will be used to get
around the housing estates and Industrial Estate particularly at
night.
North West Ipswich Safer Neighbourhood Team Sergeant – Roger
Salmon said, “Safer Neighbourhood Teams are all about getting out
into the communities we serve – this bike will enable my team to do
this in a more visible and responsive way and we are very grateful
to West Engineering for their generosity.”
Dale Smith – Managing Director of West Engineering said, “The
public like to see their local police out and about. The bike will
help the PCSOs get around further and a little faster. We (West
Engineering) are delighted to support our local police in this
way.”
There are 47 Safer Neighbourhood
Teams across Suffolk. The teams are made up of police officers,
police community support officers and other police staff working
alongside councils, community partners and volunteers. They will be
listening to people’s concerns, working together to solve problems
and keeping the community informed about progress.
People can find out more about their local team by logging on to
the Safer Neighbourhoods website:
www.safersuffolk.org.uk
where they can search for their team by typing in their postcode,
or by searching by parish or district/borough council ward. There
is also an A to Z of the
teams.
