Suffolk Police are renewing their appeal for information about a
car involved in a robbery in Mildenhall on Monday 10th
March.
A security van was delivering cash to the Nationwide Building
Society in the Market Place at 8pm, when four men wearing
balaclavas and camouflage clothing appeared. They threatened both
the driver, who was still in the van, and the security guard, who
was inside the building.
The men smashed windows at the bank and threatened the security
guard with what is believed to have been a taser. The men entered
the bank and took three boxes containing a large quantity of cash,
then left in a silver Vauxhall Omega. Neither the driver nor the
security guard were hurt.
The car, registration W103WBO, was found on Friday
14th March in Melbourne Drive in Mildenhall, with
clothing inside. The car and clothing have now been taken away and
forensically examined, and results are currently being looked
at.
Detective Inspector John Brocklebank is leading the
investigation. “I am still trying to trace this vehicle’s movements
prior to the robbery and afterwards. I am renewing my appeal for
anyone who runs a guest house or hotel in the town or surrounding
area to come forward if they had a group of men stay over the
weekend before the robbery, Saturday 8th and Sunday
9th March, with the silver Vauxhall Omega.
“I also want to hear from anyone who may have seen the car
between the robbery taking place and it being found on Melbourne
Drive four days later. The car was seen to leave the scene of the
crime in the direction of the A11, but it was found abandoned in
the opposite direction. Anyone who has any information on where the
car was after the robbery should call police.”
Anyone with any information should call Mildenhall CID on 01473
613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555
111.
