A lot of work
has been undertaken in order to have the Appeal by Brett Aggregates
and their new application for a quarry at Chilton refused. Here is
an update of the current situation and how you can help the council
oppose the quarry at Chilton.
THE APPEAL
The deadline for further submissions in relation
to the Appeal has now passed. We now await confirmation from the
Planning Inspectorate on the date of the Inquiry, which is not
expected until the New Year.
NEWTON PARISH COUNCIL APPEAL
RESPONSE
SECOND PLANNING APPLICATION
At the Newton Parish Council meeting held on the
27th August 2008 the councillors agreed the content of the response
to Babergh District Council (BDC). At the BDC
Development Committee meeting held on 17th September, the
committee unanimously agreed to object to the second
planning application.
NEWTON PARISH COUNCIL RESPONSE TO
BDC
At the Newton Parish Council meeting held on the 10th September
2008 the councillors agreed the content of the response
to Suffolk County Council (SCC) which is
below.
NEWTON PARISH COUNCIL RESPONSE TO
SCC
What you can do to help get this
application rejected
SCC gave Newton Parish Council until the 12th
September to submit its observations in order that the response
would be included in the report prepared for members of the
Development Control Committee who are now due to meet on the 4th
December 2008 to review the application. By asking you to
submit your comments by the 12th September meant that the total
number of representations received would also be recorded in the
report. It is good to report that as at Friday 10th October 2008
the number of representations on the SCC website was over
330.
The good news for those of you who have not sent a letter
is that there is still time to get your comments to
SCC. SCC still log all representations right up to
the committee meeting and give the updated count of representations
received to the committee. When the first application was
heard in March, the number of representations was 130 which was
described as “unprecedented” by members of the Development Control
Committee. Unfortunately, those letters will not count against the
new application so you must write again if you want to stop
the quarry.
Please send your views on the second planning
application, quoting B/08/01182 - Chilton Estate
on your letter, to:

ACTION COMMITTEE
Peter Clifford, Chairman of Chilton Parish
Council, has formed an Action Committee in order to raise the
profile of the community’s objection to the quarry proposals. There
are Newton residents on the committee who will be contacting
residents in relation to specific plans. If you want to offer any
help to the committee please contact Peter on 01787 371798 or
