SOS Bus
Newmarket has a
vibrant night time economy with visitors from across the region
coming to enjoy the nightlife and racing. But as with many
communities in the UK, issues can arise, the SOS bus situated on
Newmarket High-street is there to help.
Running on
Saturday nights from 9:00pm to 3:00am, the primary purpose of
the SOS Bus is to offer immediate, non-judgemental assistance to
people at risk along Newmarket's High Street. Parked up on the wide
paved area outside the town's main Post Office, the Bus will remain
static for the duration of each shift.
The SOS Bus
provides first aid, advice and help to vulnerable people
experiencing issues such as:
- Emotional Distress
- Alcohol and Substance
misuse
- Social Isolation
- Lack of immediate
finance
- Relationship
Breakdowns

Newmarket Town Pastors
Caring on the streets
Town Pastors are Christians who look
out for and support vulnerable people, giving assistance where
appropriate. Being on the street to provide a presence of
friendliness and care so that people can enjoy their night out,
defusing any potentially aggressive situations. Town Pastors are
available to people as listeners, encouraging safe behaviour for
all, and fostering good relationships between the public, the
police, door staff, the local authorities and voluntary
agencies.
Town Pastors, working in male/female pairs, wearing bright
distinctive jackets and headgear, are out on Saturday nights from
10pm until the early hours. Their aim is to provide a positive
influence in the town - backed by prayer.
They have contact with the Prayer
Base, CCTV operators and police via radio and phone, and carry a
small stock of useful items for use while on patrol.
