Mid Suffolk District Council, in conjunction with the Police and
Stowmarket Town Council have implemented an order designating
public places in parts of Stowmarket town centre as areas where
drinking alcohol is prohibited. The order was implemented in June
2006 and gives Police the power to stop people drinking in public
areas.
Two zones have been set up in the town and are shown on the map
below.

Police have the power to ask people to stop drinking and if they do
not comply, the Police can confiscate the alcohol and issue a fixed
penalty notice. Anyone who refuses could also be arrested and fined
up to £500.
Pubwatch
This is an established group involving the majority of pubs and
clubs and many other licenced premises within Mid Suffolk that work
together to make your night out a safe one.
The group members operate and enforce the ‘Banned from one, Banned
from all’ system. This enables them to ban anyone that is
repeatedly causing problems in one or more premises. The ban will
run for a year but may be increased if
necessary.
