Nightsafe is a project which began in 2001 to reduce the amount
of alcohol related violence in the town centre.
Nightsafe main aim is to reduce alcohol related disorder by 10%
on current figures by 2008.
- Nightsafe was initially piloted in Ipswich four years ago
because of the 100% increase in the number of licensed premises in
the town centre.
- It was aimed at the 10,000 people who enjoy the Ipswich night
life on the busiest evenings of the week.
- Nightsafe Ipswich is a programme of education, communication
and partnership working to tackle to complex issues related to
night time violence.
The Nightsafe project has three main messages that fit into
fulfilling the targets and enabling people to have a good night
out. They are:
-
Don't Overdo It
-
Friends Stick Together
-
Get Home Safe
These messages were chosen as alcohol related violence is more
likely to occur when people have too much alcohol, seperate from
their friends and go off alone, and when no provisions are
made to get home safely.
