Newsletter 2010

First of all thanks to all the volunteers and parents without whose help it would be impossible to run, also thanks to The Environment Agency, Viscount Tackle Ipswich, Bait-Tech, Suffolk Water Park, F.M.S, Gipping Angling Preservation Society, Nisa Feeders and The Suffolk Foundation for their generous help.
This year has gone really well with several new members, many of whom had only tried fishing once or twice before, now most of them have caught “the bug” , bought a lot of their own tackle and can’t wait till the next session. As you probably all know both Emma and Brian passed their level one coaching course, and Emma in particular has been taking many of our new members for lessons, we hope to have three more coaches in our ranks next year. We once again held a charity match in aid of Suffolk Disabled Anglers Forum Thanks to all who took part, bought raffle tickets and donated the prizes, apart from the parents who donated prizes we had prizes from Breakaway Tackle, Birds Tackle, Markham’s, Viscount Tackle, Tackle Up Felixstowe, Preston Innovations, Suffolk Water Park, Robinsons Motor Engineers Needham Market We raised over £200 at this event.

The Viscount Summer League once again proved a tremendous success with Taylor winning the league for the second year running; can he make it his hat trick next year? Thanks to Viscount Tackle for sponsoring the league. Colman’s Cottage Essex, four of our juniors fished in this junior league, but it was not very well attended this year, well done to George for catching his first 100lb+ bag of carp (105lb 5oz) and also for winning fishing tackle.
All England Junior Pole Championship at Dents of Hilgay, Norfolk, we entered two teams in this event, the team consisting of Brian, Nathan, Kim and Jack finished in 3rd place. The other team consisting of Emma, Alex, James C and Jamie finished in 10th place. Thanks to Tim and Brian for their input into tactics for this venue.
N.J.A.A Under 18’s Final, Langwith Lakes York; Firstly Thanks to the parents for taking the juniors on this long journey, we took a team of 8 juniors to fish this match, we knew we were up against it when all the other teams were virtually locals and travelled no further than 50 miles to compete and therefore had plenty of practice, the fishing proved to be very hard as a match was held on the lakes the day before, what impressed us about our juniors was the way they stuck to the task and tried different tactics in an effort to catch more fish. Well done.
Suffolk and Norfolk Summer League; we entered a team of five in this event (three juniors, two adults) with the idea of giving some of the older juniors experience of fishing with and against top local match anglers, Alex, Taylor, George and Brian all gained valuable experience competing, indeed Brian proved that he had learned a lot by winning one of the matches on the River Yare with a catch of roach and skimmer s for a weight of 37lb. Thanks also to the senior members of the team who imparted valuable advice to the juniors, with 14 teams taking part we finished in 12th place, just 5 points off 6th place, bearing in mind we were the only team fielding juniors and fishing against 70+ adult anglers we did extremely well and hope to enter again in 2011.
NJAA Challenge South Holland Drain; once again thanks to the parents for taking the juniors to the venue for the practice and the match itself. Well done to the under 16 team for finishing 4th overall, once again the northern teams dominating the results, A big well done to Taylor for winning the individual crown and getting Nisa Waveney’s name recognised in our 1st year as members of N.J.A.A. The over 16 team didn’t fare as well, but there’s always next year, we have the makings of very good teams if we continue to work very hard in practice learning different methods.
Weybread Pits; Inter club match against Harleston and Wortwell Juniors, Well done to the team, for the 2nd year running we beat H&W on their home water, 101lb to 110lb, well done to Bradley for finishing 2nd , Jamie 3rd, Emma 4th.
Final match Suffolk Water Park M3,Silvers match, won by Kim, Taylor 2nd, 3rd was our newest member, Sophie fishing her first ever match, catching a Rudd of over a pound, and winning the “angler of the day” trophy as well. Overall we are impressed with the way the juniors are progressing in only our 2nd year; with some of our juniors now starting to win and frame in senior open matches at Suffolk Water Park, our aim is to help all of you develop your skills and enjoy your fishing. We look forward to continued success in 2011 and beyond. The parents will be pleased to learn that a couple of nationals are scheduled to be fairly local next year, one being at Suffolk Water Park and another near Peterborough, There is possibility of one long trip to Heronbrook Fishery near Stoke on Trent for the Angling Trust Cadets, Juniors & Intermediates National Championship.

2009

As our 2009 diary closes we can now look back and ask how successful our first year as a club has been and from that decide where and if we can improve anything we either did or didn’t do very well. We certainly gave you all plenty of events to choose from and we also included a mixed variety of venues and fishing, which is something in which we excelled and something which was enjoyed by our young match anglers. Another good point was seeing how well you all worked together both as team members and individuals.

We started with the blessing of our parent club the Nisa Waveney Angling Club who paid the entry fees of both our teams in this years National Junior Championships. We have also received support and sponsorship from both Nisa Feeders and Bait-Tech for which we are extremely grateful. Our sincere thanks also go to both the Environment Agency for their award of £500 which helped pay some of our start up costs and the Suffolk Foundation for their award of £3000 which has been used to purchase equipment and pay our Junior National Championship squad overnight accommodation fees. So when you look back at all of this we can say it has been a very successful first year. Success doesn’t just come you have to work hard to achieve that and our first years success wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of the people that have given so much of their time and energy that few realise so lets remember them and lets also not forget the parents and other volunteer helpers who have provided the extra support needed to make it all work, a big thank you goes out to you all.

Staying for 2010

Coleman’s Cottage:

Our plans are to carry on and offer the same service to young match anglers who will once again have the opportunity to compete in both domestic matches and national team championships. Several of

you have also enjoyed taking part in the Junior League Matches at Coleman’s Cottage where you have also done very well winning rods, reels and many other prizes by either winning your age group or finishing in the top three in a field of 21 other junior anglers from Essex County. Congratulations go to our own Brian Cant for winning the overall individual title at Coleman’s Cottage

Viscount Tackle Summer League
