Welcome to the Oulton Broad and
Lowestoft Horticultural Society Website |
Oulton Broad and Lowestoft Horticultural Society normally hold
eight meetings and two shows each year. Meetings take place each
month between February and November each year
(meeting details
here), the two shows in July and
August replace the normal meetings. Admission to the meetings is 50
pence, non-members are welcome. The meetings often include an
outside speaker talking about gardening related subjects,
previous talks have included Bee keeping, companion planting
and local wildlife. We also participate in an annual Inter-Society
quiz with the Beccles, Bungay and Halesworth Societies.
The Society has over
140 members,
membership is £2.50 per annum for ordinary members and £1.50 for
retired members. Membership of the
Young Gardeners Club is free.
During the summer months we arrange a number of outtings and
visits, in previous years they have included Kew Gardens and the
RHS Bicentenary Evening at Somerleyton Hall with a guided tour by
the head gardener Mr Bob Coutts, RHS Wisley, Hyde Hall in Essex and
Wottons of Wenhaston.
For several years the Society have taken part in two displays at
Pontin's Holiday Centre (Pakefield), in April there is
the Spring Flower Festival and in June the Pakefield in
Bloom competition. The theme for 2005 was "The Wedding",
and for 2006 it was "Gardens of the World". Plans are already in
hand for the 2008 displays.
