About Independance Advisors Service (IAS)

Living at home isn’t just about physical health; being comfortable in one’s surroundings can be important too. The background information we ask these services for includes where they go & what they charge. It’s all about helping you to get what you need, because finding out isn’t always easy! So if you enjoy your independence at home, but just need that little extra help, why not get in touch?

About Independence Advisors Service (IAS)

What can an Independence Advisor do for me?

  • Visit you at home at an agreed time convenient to you
  • Discuss all your problems and concerns about managing at home
  • Give you accurate up-to-date information and advice about services available in your area
  • Provide you with the support you need to access those services
  • Be a long term source of information, advice and support
  • Help you to achieve greater independence and control over your life

In case there is confusion over the service name, the Independence Advisors Service started life as the Independence Advice Service but of course we already have a well established and successful Advice Service and the new title, although a mouthful, does highlight the central role of the advisors who will be visiting older people at home, identifying areas of need, providing support in the form of information and advice and being that all important link to other services.

Independence Advisors Service (IAS) is about to be launched. The advisors role seemed to capture people’s imagination with the result that over two hundred application forms were requested. There were ninety seven applications which I wittled down to twenty seven interviewees. I am pleased to say that I now have a team of seven advisors all of whom have particular skills and experience to bring to the team as well as the commitment and ability to deliver and contribute to the development of a high quality service.

IndependanceteamBy the 1st March the advisors will be in post and undergoing a period of induction and training. The aim will be to create a team with a distinct identity and sense of purpose and advisors who feel part of ACS, who are comfortable with their role and have the knowledge base which will underpin their home visiting and the information and advice they will share with clients.

We already have two referrals and hopefully within the next two to three weeks we will start visiting clients in their homes.
