Tester’s comments

“I’ve never bought suet before, and eventually settled for 25% less fat vegetable suet which is available in most supermarkets.

The recipe was really easy although I did feel like I was sailing into unknown waters. The original amounts were in cups – I changed these to 6oz measures. I also reduced the suggested sugar by half (the original recipe quoted 6oz rather than the 3oz I state above.

The resulting pudding is very moist and heavy – quite similar to a bread pudding. An autumn or winter dish?”

Tasters’ comments

"Nice, very like a bread pudding. Stodgy consistency!"

"Very good. It would go down well with a cup of tea first thing in the morning."
