Fritter Pie

Ingredients

  • Enough shortcrust pastry for the base and lid of a pie dish
  • 4 oz pig fat cut into small pieces
  • 2 ozs Sultanas
  • 2 ozs Apples (peeled, cored and cut-up)
  • 1 oz Brown Sugar
  • Ground Spice to taste

Method

  1. Melt down the pig fat in a saucepan.
  2. Pour off the excess melted fat for other uses and add the other ingredients to the pan, (sultanas, apples, sugar, spice).
  3. Mix together.
  4. Line a well greased pie dish with short crust pastry and pour in the mixture.
  5. Put some more pastry on the top to form the pie lid and seal down the edges.
  6. Brush the top of the pie with dissolved sugar (sugar in water) and bake in a moderate oven.

Delicious served warm with custard or cream.
