Having conducted us in several concerts, Edmond Fivet was appointed
as the Musical Director of Phoenix Singers in February 2009.
Edmond trained at the Royal College of Music since when he has
had a varied career in musical performance, teaching and
administration. He was Director of the RCM’s Junior Department
following which he developed the Royal Welsh College of Music and
Drama while its Principal for 18 years. He retired in 2007 and
moved to Aldeburgh where he lives with his wife, Liz Page, also a
musician. He was appointed a CBE in the Queen’s 2008 Birthday
Honours.
Edmond has conducted several
youth orchestras and ensembles. He is also an experienced music
adjudicator and examiner both at home and abroad. In December 2007
he was appointed Musical Director of Aldeburgh Music Club, a choral
society with which Phoenix Singers has close ties and occasionally
gives joint concerts (see under Repertoire). With his wife he
founded the Prometheus Orchestra of professional musicians in east
Suffolk.
