October 2008
It is with regret that I have to inform you
that the Village Green Teams in Leavenheath, Polstead and Stoke by
Nayland has, at least for the moment, folded.
Support and interest in the group has been declining and,
crucially, we now find ourselves without anyone in the post of
co-ordinator.
It is especially sad given the many successes achieved during the 3
short years of the Green Teams existence. Notable amongst these are
local recycling initiatives including the battery
boxes, a campaign to keep local post offices
open and a ‘say no to plastic bags’
campaign. These and many other ideas helped support real action at
a local level to reduce our impact on the world around us.
The recently set-up website will continue to exist as an
information resource for local people on green issues as long as
funds last. The battery boxes, including one in Polstead
Community Shop, and recycling stable will also continue.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your very
valuable support. Without input from many organisations and
individuals we would not have achieved our many successes to
date.
We would also like to acknowledge the hard work put in by all
members of the Village Green Teams in the past, particularly former
Treasurer Lynn Mash and former Co-ordinator Carol Lyndsay Smith – a
one-woman powerhouse without whom the group would not have existed
or prospered.
Any feedback on the website or future role of the group, or offers
of support, would be greatly appreciated.
