Polstead Community Shop was the first community shop in Suffolk, and is the second oldest in England. It is sited next to Polstead Village Hall, on the Green in the centre of Polstead. It is non-profit-making, and run by a team of two to three dozen volunteers. It is owned by the village it serves.

 "Sainsbury's Day"

Sainsbury’s Delivery. The Community Shop is now having a weekly delivery of selected stock from Sainsbury’s. Customers who would like to order any particular items for delivery on a MONDAY are invited and encouraged to leave their order at the Shop no later than SATURDAY at 12 noon. Their items will be added to the Shop’s order and customers should collect their order from the Shop during normal opening hours. A small delivery charge will be added to Sainsbury’s retail price.

And Now... Low-Energy Light Bulbs!

  • Energy Saving Light Bulbs are good for the environment. They last up to 10 times longer than ordinary bulbs, use up to 70% less energy and have a low heat output. Our new low-energy light bulbs will last for up to 10,000 hours!
  • We have a great selection in the Community Shop now at competitive prices. In stock are 11 watt (= 60 watt), 15 watt (= 75 watt) and 20 watt (= 100 watt) bulbs of many different shapes and kinds. (To work out the rough wattage of the new bulbs that you need, divide the old wattage by 5.)
  • All the bulbs on the poster now up in the Shop can be ordered, so please ask if there is something you particularly need. Candles, extra-mini candles, round bulbs, spirals, mini-spirals, globes, spot lights and strip lights are among those available. Recommendations for particular lights include a globe low-energy light bulb for a hanging ceiling pendant, or a spiral for a table light with a shade.
  • Disposal: In several years’ time, please bring your old low-energy light bulbs back to the Shop when they have worn out and we will dispose of them!

(Please contact Mandy Hall on 01206 262524 or email Erica Pomerans if you have any comments, suggestions or questions about the Shop.)
