Crown Prosecution Service

  • prosecutes racist and religious crime fairly, firmly and robustly.
  • will try to take account of cultural and religious sensitivities.
  • keeps the victim informed and ensures support is available for victims and witnesses.
  • records decisions to prosecute, or not, racial or religious cases and their results.

Housing Associations

  • have practices and procedures for dealing with racist incidents within their stock.
  • will provide support for victims of racist incidents.
  • can take legal action against perpetrators of racist incidents.
  • work with other agencies to resolve racial harassment matters.
  • collect data on racist incidents within their stock.
  • information about tenancies and services can be provided in an appropriate language.

Ipswich Borough Council

  • has a commitment to fairness and equality in the delivery of all its services
  • as part of this commitment and that of the ‘Fairer Ipswich’ Agenda the council is developing its approach to Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) housing in the borough.
  • By working with the Forum and others Ipswich Borough Council will aim to:
    • Identify and better respond to BME housing needs.
    • Deal effectively with racial harassment in Ipswich.
    • Comply with the Council for Racial Equality Code of Practice in Renting Housing.

Ipswich & Suffolk Council for Racial Equality

  • provides information, advice and support to individuals and organisations who experience racial discrimination, harassment or race related difficulties where such help is not readily available from other agencies.

Suffolk Constabulary

  • every racist incident reported to the police is given a high priority, recorded and investigated.
  • support, information and advice is offered to victims and witnesses throughout any investigation.

Suffolk County Council

  • provides guidance to schools on dealing with and countering racist incidents.
  • collects data on racist incidents.
  • helps teachers with resources on racial harassment.
  • arranges events for pupils (eg. Mingle Conference).
  • encourages reporting of racist incidents.
  • provides care and support to victims.
  • works with other agencies to resolve racial harassment issues.

Suffolk Probation Area

  • has working practices for dealing with racist or racially motivated offenders and changing their attitudes.
  • staff being trained to work with such offenders.
