The Village Hall used to be the village school until the school
moved to what is now known as Walnut Tree Cottage in the
late 1960's. The school subsequently closed in the 1970's.
Education for all did not become compulsory until the Education
Acts of 1870 so Rendham must have been a very progressive place
when the school was built by 'public subscription' in 1841.
When the school moved and the building became the Village Hall, it
was decided that it would be managed jointly by the Parish Council,
who act as Custodial Trustees, and the management Committee who are
the Management Trustees.

Village Hall Car Park
We are delighted to say that during the last couple of months
the village hall has seen quite an increase in usage, with the
continuing success of the Art Club, the introduction of Pilates
classes and the computer taster courses run by Suffolk Tutors. But
on some occasions it has been almost impossible for participants to
park outside the hall because of the number of unauthorised cars in
the car park. The Rendham Village Hall Management Committee
therefore feels it should clarify the situation. The car park is
provided by Suffolk County Council to serve as the village hall car
park. It is managed and maintained by RVHMC (a registered charity)
for people using Rendham Village Hall & St. Michael’s Church.
There are a limited number of spaces available for residents, on a
first come first served basis. The parking fee is currently £50 per
annum. To avoid confusion RVHMC is issuing numbered parking
permits. If you would like one please contact the Treasurer,
Richard Field on 663217. If you do not have a permit, please park
your car elsewhere.

Village Hall Refurbishment
The VHMC is carrying out a vigorous
campaign (you may have noticed!) to raise funds for the
refurbishment of the Hall which suffers from dampness, rot, old
electrics, poor heating and an outdated kitchen as well as lack of
disabled access and appropriate WC facilities.
The VHMC have comissioned architects to carry out a feasibility
study for the regeneration of the Hall. Public consultation was
carried out in the form of a 'hands on' exhibition and a scheme
providing additonal facilities and general refurbishment has met
with overwhelming support from the community. The Hall is seen as a
vital local amenity and there is strong demand for its use from
recreation and educational groups. As well as making the building
fit for the 21st century, the facility would include provison for
IT training using broadband technology.
Tenders are currently out for the work
It is hoped that the work will begin lMay
