Allotments!!

Rickinghall Parish Council is very pleased to confirm that the project will go ahead at the proposed site on Mill Lane, off Hinderclay Road. Thanks to generous grants from the Lottery Fund Awards for All, Botesdale Parish Council and County Councillor Charles Michell’s Locality Budget, together with funds pledged by the Council, we have now raised enough money to purchase this property.

Unfortunately, there has been a delay in the purchase of the property but the Parish Council has obtained a license to work on site in order to allow allotment holders on site at the beginning of the growing season.

A group of prospective allotment holders, BARWOODS members and other interested parties worked on site to clear the land, cultivate it and mark out the plots. Many thanks to all who braved the weather to make sure this would happen!

The Allotments Association was set up on 9 November 2009 and 9 members of the management committee were elected by the Association. The management committee held its first meeting on 23 November and elected officers. The Chairman, Paul Jenner, is also a Parish Councillor. They have met several times since then and on 8 March 2010 held a meeting to allocate the newly marked-out plots. The new plot holders paid their fees and people were on site almost immediately!

If you are interested in a plot, there are a few left so please get in touch with the Parish Clerk, Leeann Jackson-Eve, on 01379 890141.
