Introduction

Every year hundreds of councillors and clerks attend training with Suffolk Association of Local Councils. The value of training in helping councils to reach their full potential is recognised by members and it is a responsibility that SALC takes very seriously.

SALC is committed to providing councillors, clerks and other officers with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills and professionalism through a wide range of training courses and events.

We recently reviewed SALC training.

The result has been that you can expect to see:

· An even wider choice of courses on offer

· A new range of practical workshops

· Reviewed and updated courses

· An expanding training team

· More core courses delivered in more locations

· An increased availability of tailored or modular training

· An annual programme that allows the council to plan into the future

The Annual Programme

We know that clerks and councillors are busy people who need to plan ahead and have early notification of training and events. Councils also need advance information to help them with their budgeting. With this in mind we have produced a financial year calendar and programme of training courses and events.

The programme contains:

· An introduction to the trainers

· A description of every core course we run

· Information about who the course would benefit

· Information on the length of the course

· Details of the materials included

The Calendar contains:

· Month by month listing of courses

· Venues

· Start times and duration

· Cost of each course
