Local Schools need
you! Become more involved in your community, develop new
skills and really make a difference to local education.
School governors make up the largest group of volunteers in the
country - they are committed individuals who work to ensure that
local children receive the highest possible standards of
education. Acting as the Head Teacher's 'critical friend',
governors provide strategic management and support. There is
currently a read need in Suffolk for new volunteers, so there are
plenty of opportunities to have you say!
Schools benefit a great deal from the fresh perspective of
volunteers from the local community and there are also clear
benefits in terms of volunteers' own personal development. No
particular experience or qualifications are required and yet the
role offers the opportunity to build up a range of transferable
skills, working in a team and meeting new people, whilst developing
a new awareness of the education system.
Free training in provided and people are often surprised to find
that the average time committment is just 6-8 hours per month,
which allows volunteers to attend evening meetings and do the
necessary preliminary reading.
There are vacancies in schools near you today. At School
Governors' One-Stop Shop, we will work alongside Suffolk County
