Useful booklets and leaflets are available to help combat the
despicable crime of distraction burglary and problems with rogue
traders 
The Home Office have published a guide for care professionals and
carers called " Keep an eye open for bogus callers ". It
contains common sense tips which carers (friends, relatives,
neighbours) or care workers can impart to and share with the people
they care for to prevent them from becoming victims of distraction
burglary.
The guide covers important issues such as good doorstep
behaviour, promoting independence, valuables & money safety,
reporting of crime and many more.

Think Twice has been produced by Trading Standards in
association with the Safe and Sound Group to address some of the
concerns of older consumers living in Suffolk on consumer and
safety related issues. It gives advice on your rights regarding the
sale of goods in shops and on your doorstep and potential
scams.

A Stranger at your door? is a leaflet produced by the Safe
and Sound group offering advice on door step security and gives a
useful list of Do's & Don'ts when you answer the door.

This Home Office booklet gives householders, in particular
older and vulnerable people, advice on how to deter the bogus
caller.
The booklet is also available in large
print, as a audio cassette tape and 10 different languages:

This booklet is produced by the Office of Fair trading to offer
advice of how guard yourself from being a victim of a scam.
Scammers are becoming more sophisticated and aim to con us all.
Deceptive premium rate competition scams, bogus sweepstakes and
lotteries, get-rich quick schemes and fake health cures are some of
the favoured means of separating the unwary from their
money. And the number of scams just keeps on growing.
The booklet gives a list of groups to contact if you
have been or suspect you have been a victim. No matter how small
the amount of money you have lost it is important that the
scamsters are stopped.
