Priority One

You asked us to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour by youths in specific areas and this is what we have done about it:

Objective
Target Anti-Social and illegal use of motorcycles in Bobbits lane Belstead and Bourne Hill Wherstead on sunday afternoons.

Update
We have been working closely with the local authority and owners of the lands around bobbit's hole. Preventative measures such as gates and ploughing the land are being looked as well as other preventative measures such as two recent local radio broadcasts stating that we will take action against offenders. We also recently took possession of a motorcycle which had all it's identification removed. We are keen for residents to let us know how they feel about the problem and if it is still causing concern. The latest information we have is that persons from out of county are coming into suffolk to use these areas and we are looking at ways to educate these people through the media. We now have a policy of prosecuting all offenders and seizing their vehicles when appropriate.

We also continue to regularly patrol the Belstead meadows area, however there has been very little of note during the past month. Belstead meadows has now been signed off this part of the priority by the Neighbourhood Panel.

Update as at 02/12/09

  • Date set for Public meeting at Wherstead Village Hall, on Thursday 28th January 2010, at 7.30 pm, to update action taken and discuss further options.
  • Email sent to Web Site of covering legal Practice Tracks, informing local riders not to visit Bobbits due to Police Crack down.
  • Creation of data base of local riders/users found in Bobbits area. Thus helping police to use full legislation to enforce offences when found.
  • Increased Hi Vis Patrols in the area at correct times.
  • Request made for extra signage around the area

Public meeting held on Thursday 28th January at Wherstead Village Hall, 20 members of public attended and part agencies, information and options discussed, agreement that next update meeting will be Sept 10.

Live broadcast on local radio (BBC Radio Suffolk) carried out on Jan 28th at 07.40 hrs, high lighting the problem.

Next actions to be taken visiting local High schools speak with age range of local youths who may use the area with bikes etc.

Possible option to work with Ipswich Borough Parks and Green Spaces, ie cctv bike if still used, and get extra patrols in the Bobbits area.

Two operations planned for 7th March 10 and 11th July 10 using Special Constables.

Have spoken to local track owner Mr Potter of Belstead Village, re further contacts and information, on Sun 31/01/10.
