You asked us to look into
your concerns that youths are entering the disused Geest site at
Hadleigh Road Ipswich and may as a result put themselves at risk
entering unsafe buildings
Objective
To reduce the number of
incidents of persons entering these premises
Update
The team will:
- Gather crime pattern analysis for the location
- Speak with owners of premises to see what preventative measures
can be put in place
- Work with BDC to establish any legal
liabilities
Contact made with site owners Invererry Ltd 140 High Street
Chesthunt Waltham Cross Hertfordshire En08 OAW, Who states
that due to state of business that nothing is going to be done on
site for some time, planning permission has been granted for
housing, but due to cost of taking Geest building down, it will
remain for some time, I have update the owner with complaints form
local residents re youths entering the building and state of
security, and the health and safety side of things, the company
will do an site inspection asap, to see what can be done to improve
security
As from 25/01/10 Hi vis foot patrols to be carried out by local
Snt team, and recored on engagement diary, contact made with local
Nhw Scheme for reports on site, etc.
Contact to be made with Bdc re health and safety concerns to
public and youths entering the sight and what possible enforcement
they can provide.
20/01/10 Contact made with Tom Ost at BDC, Who will write to
site owners, asking for improvement in site security etc.
update as of 02/02/10
The premises has now been boarded up on the ground floor and
therefore should cause no further issues for us or the residents
although patrols will continue.
