You asked us to look into reports of excess
speed in and around the village of Thurston.
Objective
Problems mainly occur in Barton
Road, Beyton Road & Station Hill causing concern to residents
and visistirs to the village.
- Speed enforcement to be carried out by Police.
- County Councillor to explore the use of Traffic Monitoring
equipment.
- SNT officers to liaise with the Parish Council regarding the
formation of a Community Speed Watch Scheme.
Update
At the meeting on 17th February an
update was provided in relation to the speed sites as suggested by
Thurston Parish Council on the 17th December. The statistics
supported the problem in Barton Road where, during January, 4
checks were carried out with 7 fixed penalty notices being issued
and 8 drivers warned for excess speed but in relation to Beyton
Road & Station Hill the problem was alot less.
In view of this the sites in Beyton Road & Station Hill were
removed but at the same meeting a member of public from
Thurston wished to raise parking problems in School Road around the
Primary School during pick up/drop off times as an issue.
This parking problem was something that the Pcso Simon Myall was
already aware of and has already planned a multi agency meeting in
early March with SCC Road Safety as well as County/District and
Parish Councillors being present to decide a way forward to deal
with this problem effectively.
An update from that meeting will be printed on this website.
Outcome
Details to follow soon.
