Parish council

The four parishes of Shadingfield, Sotterley, Willingham and Ellough have long been joined together to make decisions in common. We own Sotterley Chapel, which is being restored by the Sotterley Chapel Preservation Trust, and Sotterley Chapel Cemetery. We have a licence to manage and use Shadingfield playing field (we also own the bus shelter on London Rd).

We are consulted by Waveney District Council and Suffolk County Council, as well as other organisations, on a range of changes which will affect the four parishes. If a concern is raised with us by a resident we pursue it with whatever organisation is responsible.

Next Meeting:

Format of meetings:
Copies of agendas can be accessed here Agendas (updated monthly before the meeting)

  • All parish council meetings are open to the public and press.
  • The parish council abides by the parish and town council code of conduct 2007.
  • The code of conduct is available for inspection by contact with the clerk.
  • The purpose of the meeting is for Councillors to discuss Parish business and whilst the attendance of residents is welcomed, they are not allowed to join in the discussions of the Councillors.
  • During each meeting the council will adjourn for a period of 10 minutes for public questions. During this time, residents can put questions to the Chairman regarding local concerns. Where possible, the Chairman will respond but the matter may have to be deferred and placed on a later month’s agenda for discussion.
