Sproughton Folk & Ceildh Club
began life in 2005 with the support of Suffolk Folk, as Folk in the
Barn (Suffolk). Our aims were, and still are
· To promote professional arts events in the local community.
· To promote the use of Sproughton’s Tithe Barn and Church Hall
as venues for folk dances and music concerts.
· To provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities
to dance to and listen to live folk and acoustic music.
· To make the events attractive to family groups so that
children, parents and grandparents can come away with a shared
experience.
· To provide a focus for local people to meet and socialise with
neighbours, friends and passing acquaintances to strengthen the
structure of the community.
Since then, our public barn dances have continued
and now take place on the third Saturday of every
month except December and June - August.
Our concerts are becoming more frequent and have
moved to a new venue in the Church Hall and are held on
Saturday evenings.
We have arranged and sponsored visits into local primary schools by
the New Scorpion Band and Flossie
Malavialle, and supported Chelmo Champs,
a primary school rapper sword team, to attend and compete at
DERT 2007.
