Useful information

Did you know that Sproughton is not specifically mentioned in the Domesday Book?  There was most probably a settlement hereabouts in 1087 but the settlement's tax information is likely to have been included under the heading
of an adjacent village (such as Burstall or Hintlesham) in the Samford Hundred.

Now for some rather more up-to-date items .....

If you're interested in the Babergh Local Plan as approved in 2006, and
its view of Sproughton, have a look at the relevant map.  This
shows, amongst other things, the boundary of the central residential
area of our village.  The other main residential area in Sproughton parish
lies to the east of the A14, between Hadleigh Road and the southern bank
of the river Gipping.

See also the Village Organisations page for contact information.

a). The Playing Field Management Committee.
This committee administers the Sproughton Playing Field Charity, a
Charity set up to provide sporting and recreational facilities for the benefit
of Sproughton residents.  The Management Committee consists of
Appointed Trustees and Elected Trustees representative of village organisations, all of whom must be Sproughton residents. The current Chairman is Colin Davis.

The Parish Council is the Custodian Trustee of the playing field.  The
Custodian Trustee holds the Trust Deed (which includes the conveyance)
but does not itself own the land. The Appointed and Elected Trustees
own  the playing field on behalf of the charity.

Amongst the clubs that currently use land administered by the Playing
Field Management Committee (PFMC) are:
   Sproughton Bowls Club,
   Sproughton Football Club,
Sproughton Tennis Club - see: http://www.btinternet.com/~sproughtontennis/
   Sproughton Sports & Social Club.
The children's play area has been equipped and managed by the
Parish Council.  The PFMC has recently (2008) completed a programme
of refurbishment, with the aid of grants.

There are indoor sports organisations in Sproughton, such as Carpet Bowls, Badminton and Short  Tennis. These organisations use the Tithe Barn.
