The Event:- The Bury St Edmunds Charity
Bike Ride was formed in 1998 to raise money for local charities. It
began early in 1998 in a pub over a pint. Over the next ten
years nearly 3500 riders have taken part and in excess of
£105,000 has been raised for various local charities.
Trust:- With the success of Bury
St Edmunds Charity Bike Ride it was a agreed that a Trust to be set
up this will be known as “St Edmunds Wheel Trust” and would not
only organise this Bike Ride but other events to raise money for
local charities.
Location:- All
events start and finish in the Abbey Gardens Bury St Edmunds and
will be signed off the A14 Bury east junction. Car Parking will be
on Ram Meadow Cotton Lane.
Bike Routes:- Riders have the choice
of a range of routes starting with 15 miles going up to 25, 50 and
for the most energetic a new route of 100 miles
introduced last year around the town of Bury St
Edmunds.
Historic Walk:- Walking
through History, this years walk will be a guided tour around
the Historic Bury St Edmunds. Tour will take about 90 -
100mins learn the secrets, the stories and the scandal of Bury.
Registered Guide (Blue or Green Badge Holders) will leave at
intervals from 10.30am
Fun
Run:- The
Fun Run will be of two Routes, one for the 11's and under the other
for the rest. The shorter of the two route is about 3/4 mile,
the other approx 5 miles. Start will be at 11.00am letting the
youngsters to complete their lap and then the start of 5 mile
route. Routes will be signed and Marshalled coming back to the
Abbey Gardens for refreshments.
Fancy Dress:- To make the day a more memorable
one why not come in fancy dress.
Registration and
Refreshments:- Registration will take place
from 7.30am onwards and the first ride will start at 9.00am. (100
mile riders extra start at 8.15am) Registration for the Walk
will open at 9.45am and start at 10.30am. The Fun
Run registration will open at 10.00 and start at 11.00am. Tea,
coffees and refreshments will be available from 7.30am. Stops will
be positioned on all routes (Bike Ride Only) with drinks and
refreshments, compliments of Thomas Ridleys (Rougham)
Age Limit:- There is no age limit for any
of the rides, but an adult must accompany any children under the
age of fifteen. Again for the walk, children must be accompanied by
an adult.
Participant Packs:- All people
taking part will receive a pack which will include sponsorship
forms, numbers and details of the day will be sent out on
completion of this form. Details of the routes, Hi-vis
(Bike Ride & Run only) and safety pins will be
available on the day from registration. Participants are encouraged
to obtain sponsorship on forms provided to raise money for Bury
Free Press Helping Hand Fund, St Nicholas Hospice and other
Charities.
Gift Aid:- Use
Gift Aid and you can make your donation worth more. For every pound
you give to us, we get an extra 25 pence from the Inland Revenue.
