Stowmarket Badminton Club has been in
operation for many years. In 1963 the club was playing in the Corn
Hall in Stowmarket and at that time the subscription fee was
£2.2s.6d.
In 1968 the club moved to play in the gymnasium at Stowmarket High
School until moving again in 1973 to the Mid Suffolk Leisure
Centre.
We currently run both our adult and junior clubs from the
Sports Hall in Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre. Some of our club players
represent Suffolk in the County teams and the Suffolk Veterans
Teams.
Throughout the regular season we play with feather shuttles on club
nights and home matches. During the off season we host a
summer club at the Leisure Centre which is open to
non-members where we play with plastic shuttles.
On March 31st 2008 we were awarded Badminton England Premier
Club status after successfully completing the Clubmark quality
accreditation scheme. Julia Strong of Badminton England wrote –
“The Premier Club and Clubmark standard required commitment,
dedication and hard work from both the club and its
volunteers". Also..." it demonstrates that we have got
strong coaching and effective management in place and that we take
equality and child protection issues
seriously". | |
