Freeman Primary School, Stowupland
Freeman Community
Primary School serves the villages of Stowupland, Creeting St.
Peter and Earl Stonham. We are a small, friendly village
school. We have 146 children on roll in 5 classes with another
16 part-time in our Nursery. We welcome applications for
places from parents of children aged 4-9. Currently 37% of our
children come by parental choice from outside our catchment
area.
Our distinctive feature is the attention we give to each child’s
individual gifts, talents and needs. Visitors to our school often
comment on the calm and purposeful atmosphere and all the care and
attention that our children receive.
Children join us for afternoon sessions in the term after their
4th birthday. The following term they attend for morning
sessions and they become full time Reception children in their
third term. Our school is well resourced including, excellent
modern facilities in our Early Years Unit and a recently upgraded
Computer Suite with 16 PC’s. All classrooms in our main building
have interactive whiteboards.
Children achieve well and make good progress. This was shown by
our results in the Summer term 2004 and again in 2005, which were
“significantly” above both county and national averages. We are
well staffed with 6.5 full time teachers, 4 teaching assistants, a
Nursery Nurse and 9 other members of our support staff providing
catering, admin. support, cleaning and lunchtime supervision. All
our staff are very well qualified, show great dedication and have a
wealth of expertise. Staff enjoy a wide range of professional
development opportunities which are well used to continuously
improve the service we offer.
We have four after school clubs as well as lunchtime Football,
Maths Games and Recorder Clubs and a choir. We provide educational
visits for all our children and the oldest have an opportunity to
go out on a residential educational visit.
One of our classrooms is used by Stowupland Pre-School. They
serve children from the term in which they have their third
birthday. This helps us to provide continuity for children from 2
right through to 9. Most pupils transfer to Bacton Middle School at
the end of Year 4. Bacton has been recognised as one of the
county’s most successful Middle Schools. Free transport is
available for children living in our area.
If you would like to arrange a visit we would be delighted to
meet you. Please telephone the School on 01449 612067 to make an
appointment.
