New angle for youngsters looking for half-term fun (October 20,
2009)
Bored youngsters looking for things to do in the half-term
holidays can try their hand at fishing or pick up some bushcraft
skills, thanks to Suffolk Coastal and its partners.
With five different venues and a bus service running from
Woodbridge, the catch of the holiday is all-day fishing for only
£30 per child, with coaching on offer to help them get hooked into
one of the country’s favourite leisure pastimes.
“I am particularly excited about the Forest camp organised by the
Forestry Commission at Rendlesham Forest which will see youngsters
learning survival and bushcraft skills, den building and wild food
cooking,” said Cllr Mary Neale, Cabinet Member for Countryside and
Leisure.
The activities on offer during the holiday are thanks to Suffolk
Coastal working in partnership with the Suffolk Coastal Local
Strategic Partnership, Active Communities and the Suffolk Coastal
Community Safety Partnership.
“The courses promise to be very popular and I would encourage
anyone who is interested in trying one or more of the activities to
book a place quickly by calling 01394 444652 or 07775 586545 or
completing a booking form on our website on
www.suffolkcoastal.gov.uk/yourfreetime/halfterm
,” added Cllr Neale.
The fishing is taking place at Bromeswell on Monday, October 26, at
Creeting on the Tuesday, Aldeburgh on the Wednesday, Suffolk Water
Park on the Thursday, and Needham Market on the Friday. The bus
leaves Deben Swimming Pool at 9am each day.
Brochures and booking forms can also be picked up from local
schools, libraries and Tourist Information Centres across the
district. For more information about any of the activities
residents can contact the active communities team on 01394 444652
