Welcome to the Syleham Parish
website |
Syleham is a parish in the north of Suffolk, bordering the River
Waveney. It is 6 miles NE of the attractive and historic small town
of Eye, which is its post town, and 3 ½ miles SW of Harleston,
which is just over the border in Norfolk
and is a small market town with an excellent range of
independent shops and a small supermarket.
Syleham formed part of the hundred of Hoxne. The parish is quite
spread out but is a friendly place, with just 181 names
currently on the electoral roll. It has long since lost its school,
shops and pubs but there are various traces of its
history to be found. Meanwhile, the
church offers regular services and the
village hall is well used.
If you need somewhere to stay or to eat, or want to know who's who
and what's what, open the useful information
page.
Syleham has recently undertaken a survey for a Parish Plan,
giving residents of the village an opportunity to have a
say in their own future, and it is hoped to have the Plan published
during the winter. See the parish plan page
for both Syleham and Wingfield.
This website is an initiative of the Parish
Council.
