Help please Im looking for information on my grandmother and father
- Winifred Mary Cook who was living in Theberton around 1920 when
my father was born - Raymond John Cook. Perhaps a picture of
the school where my Father attended exists for the time - or a
parish register which notes my Grandmother's details - Thank
you kind people.

Hi , Jan Wharton from
New Zealand . I haven't been to Suffolk as yet but will be making
the trip in 2009. On searching Google Books for Jones I find a
Colonel Jones @Theberton Hall 1820. Unfortunately it wasn't able to
be downloaded .
My family I
believe come from Jones of Woodhall and Long Melton .
My ggggreat
grandfather Major Charles Jones b.1783 of the 15th Hussars was Aide
de Camp to the Duke of Cumberland in 1817.
I wondered if
there is anyone on your site that could correspond with me and
point me in the right direction . I have a 1837 diary entry from
Charles son Ernest Jones Chartist that suggests his father first
married into the Lord Braybrook family and his bride was a neice of
the Provost of Eaton .(names unknown )
I have
been unable to confirm any of this . thank you for any help. Jan
Wharton .13/12/08
I've
sent 2 articles on the son Ernest, born in Holstein..no info so far
on any Theberton link. T.Preston.

from the late 16th century to the 1930 s living and working in
Theberton as Blacksmiths.I visited Theberton a few years ago and
noted that the forge is now a private dwelling.Would anyone have
any information regarding the forge in its working days and also
any knowledge of the Bailey family. My Great Great Grandfather
George moved to Leiston and worked as a Blacksmith. My Great
Grandfather Harry moved to Luton Beds he was an
ironmolder.
The family settled in Luton
where I was born.I now live in South Australia but feel an infinity
with Theberton I wish I had known of my connection with Theberton
before I left
England. Thanks
for any help you can give Best Wishes Barrie J Bailey.Mt Bryan,
South Australia.
Hi
Barrie. If you go to the "History" page and click on the [blue]
links H2 H3 and H4 just below the "Photo of the Month" you will see
several photos inside and outside the forge. Jimmy Coates is seen
outside the forge. From my list of burials I have these Baileys all
buried next to each other ....
? Bailey died 1759. Ann Bailey d. 1817. ? Bailey d. 1813. Robert
Bailey born 1814.
Ann Bailey d. 1813. Jane Bailey d. 1810. Elizabeth Bailey d. 1810.
Robert Bailey d. 1814.
Elsewhere Joseph d. 1889 with d. 1878 next to Henry d. 1907 with
Louisa d. 1914.
In 1844 Roger & Thomas Bailey are
listed as Theberton blacksmiths.
The 1841 census lists
3 blacksmiths in Theberton.
it lists @ 24 Church St. Thomas Bailey aged
48 blacksmith also Rachel Bailey aged 51 and George Bailey aged
17
and @ 104 Church St. Roger
Bailey aged 57 Blacksmith Ann Bailey aged 55
William
Bailey aged 30 shoemaker & Joseph Bailey aged 21
blacksmith
I think the house numbers where just for the
Census..NOT the normal one.
I hope this helps !! Tony

As a child my Mother was told a
story by her Grandfather of a relative – Slasher Cook (?!) who was
killed by the windmill. I can find no reference to this. Is there
any truth to this or is it an old man’s tall
tale?
Steph Crow Stowmarket 1 September 2009
Can anybody shed any light on this please
?
