‘We are extremely grateful for the service that you have given us in the past and wish the scheme every success in the future’ (client)

Ufford Good Neighbours are now up and running thanks to the committee and a group of volunteers who have offered their time to help others in the village.

Update December 2010
‘I have used Ufford Good Neighbours often, it’s been such a help’ (client)

The Ufford Good Neighbours AGM was a real treat. After the formalities mulled wine and mince pies were served as people started chatting about the scheme. We had some lovely comments from some of the people who have used the scheme over the past year and also some useful feedback from volunteers, most wanting to do more jobs!

We thought it would be useful to introduce a ‘job of the month’ to highlight just some of the work that volunteers could be doing to help out people in the village. We are also dropping the mileage charge to 25p per mile, the money collected by the volunteer for any driving involved can either be set against their petrol or they can choose to give it to charity, or put back in the Good Neighbours accounts to offset the running costs.

Update May 2010

Since Ufford Good Neighbours went live on 1st December last year, it has been getting about 2 calls a month from Ufford villagers.

Typically, callers wanted help with things like changing light-bulbs and fire alarm batteries, collecting prescriptions, giving lifts to and from a doctor’s surgery and dental appointments, walking the dog, and pruning rose bushes. About half of the calls received ask for a lift to and from a medical appointment.

The initial group of volunteers has grown by an additional two, and now totals 19. All are Ufford residents, and all are police checked and carry ID badges.

So why not give Ufford Good Neighbours a call if you need a helping hand? The help is available to any Ufford resident over the age of 18 and is completely free (except for a small charge of 25p per mile to reimburse volunteer drivers, if you need transport).
