This month, our villages
of the month are Theberton and Eastbridge, a small
community of nearly 400 souls on the Suffolk coast close
to Minsmere.
This feature has been sent in by Tony Preston of Theberton
How many witches can you
hang for 11 shillings?
Where can you sit on our Vicar’s son? Who are “The Yoxford Boys”
?
How did 2 crewmen survive Zeppelin L48 being shot down in flames
and crashing at Holly Tree Farm, Theberton?
Where is Sir David Frost’s carpet? What is the Eel’s Foot?
When did our Vicar walk to Yoxford to see Robert Coo burn at the
stake?
Who played the harmonium on the beach at Minsmere Sluice?
Well you can find all the answers on the new
Theberton and
Eastbridge Parish Council website
We have many visitors on
their way to see
R.S.P.B. Minsmere with its bitterns, marsh harriers and
avocets..many walkers popping in to “The Lion” or “The Eel’s Foot”.
From further a field we have people seeking information on our
Zeppelin – a fragment is hanging in the church and the memorial is
in the cemetery, with a display in “The Lion”, which also has
visitors to see the memorabilia to the
357th Fighter Group
Mustangs stationed here (now “Cakes and Ale” Caravan park) in
WW2 & who cycled to us for a drink.
We were twinned with
Thebarton,
(Adelaide, Western Australia) which was founded by a Theberton
resident William Light and many website hits are from residents
there.
There are direct web links built into our site for people to
visit all the websites about our history, as well as lists of books
about the area, and other maps, photos and old postcards.
You can also find direct email links to all our councillors and
link directly to
Suffolk Coastal’s Planning Portal to view or comment on local
Planning Applications online. Our
“
Searching for Relatives” page is useful for those researching
family history.
So, if you are interested in any of these things or just want to
see when there is Jazz at “The Lion” or Musical “Squit-Night” at
“The Eel’s Foot”, what time Church Services are or read the Village
Newsletter or Council Minutes online then visit the
Theberton and Eastbridge Parish Council
website. We hope you enjoy you visit.
In addition to the usual pages we have a Photo of the Month and
an Old Postcard of the Month:
Many thanks to Tony Preston of Theberton who
