A Walk around
Rattlesden
(Make sure you’ve got your walking boots on for this as it’s a
bit up and down)
If you park in the lay-by opposite the Brewers Arms and the
village Hall along Lower Road.
Facing the Brewers Arms, take the small road leading up to the
left hand side of the pub. This road then leads onto a footpath
which will take you up the hill to the South of the village.
At the top of the hill take the footpath to your right, stopping
to look back at the view of the village from this vantage
point.
Follow the footpath until you come to a small green, cut across
the green and you will then come out into a small development of
Council properties. On leaving the footpath follow the road
directly in front of you.
Then at the end of the road turn left and then right into Top
Road.
Along this road you will pass a Farm and a development of new
houses, opposite the second cottage on the left is a footpath
leading back down into the village. Take this footpath down the
hill.
At the bottom of the footpath turn right and head back into the
village. As you walk along this footpath you get another impressive
view of the church overlooking the village. When you come to the
end of the tree line, just before the chapel graveyard, turn right
over a little bridge and follow the hedge round, go over the stile
and back down to the road past the telephone box.
On reaching the road turn right and then at the Whalebones over
the river turn left into Upper Road and then left again into School
Lane.
Follow the concrete track up the hill and at the top of the hill
just past a bungalow on your right turn right and go over a stile,
across a garden and through a small pedestrian gate.
Then continue on a cross-field path towards the church. Leave
the field by a pedestrian gate and go along a path through a small
copse. After another gate continue beside a fence on the right,
through a large grassy garden.
Go out at another pedestrian gate to cross the road and walk
down a footpath skirting the churchyard. At the road go right and
follow the road around to the right back to the start.
Ready for a well earned drink!
