As part of the festival in November this year we are planning Newmarket Can Sing!, bringing different kinds of singers to work in primary and middle schools, with families, socialservices' family centres, racing welfare groups, and other community needy organisations of those with special needs.

Kernos Centre

Training to increase access for support for younger children

To open our service to younger children (7-11yrs) by having a training day for the therapists in using creative play such as sand trays and different mediums in order to increase our skills in working with the younger aged children who are being referred experiencing problems with feelings or behaviour that causes disruptions to their lives and those around them at home and school.  This creative work will also benefit older children who find it difficult to communicate.  To purchase a play therapy sand tray.

Improving changes for people with learning difficulties

Provision of learning opportunities for people with learning disabilities who are excluded and under-represented individuals to enable them to get back into learning by providing appropriate flexible learning sessions.  The aim is to target people that would not normally access mainstream provision and encourage them to get invovled in their local community through volunteering.

A Taste of Cultures

An event, to take place on Friday 23 October 2009 to coincide with Make a Different Week, to promote the culture of people living in BSE and the surrounding area, which will be undertaken by The International Women's Group, formed in 2008 by BSE Volunteer Centre as a result of interest expressed by attendees at the 2007 West Suffolk Festival of Culture.

To purchase 2 commercial ovens that will enhance and increase capacity within the catering services.  Since the closure of Bellevue the club has provided a 1 day lunch link service.

The New Bus

To replace current 'old' vehicles with a much newer 15 seater mini bus which has been offered by another charity.  The offer is subject to agreement and contract would mean taking ownership of the bus and in return provide transport for Mencap, The Resource Centre, The Bridge and Avocet.

Seeking a grant to run a healthy eating/lifestyles training project across West Suffolk from 3 APT centre in BSE, Haverhill and Sudbury for volunteers, beneficiaries with learning difficulties some with additional mental health problems and their carers.
