West Suffolk Low Carbon Centre -
West Suffolk College
In late 2010 the West Suffolk LSP launched a bidding programme to
provide a sustainable legacy for the Partnership. The successful
bid was submitted by West Suffolk College to which the WSLSP agreed
to award £157,050 in May 2011. The funding will be used to help
build a ground-breaking low carbon construction training centre.
The College plans to create the first-class facility, at its new
premises in Anglian Lane to demonstrate the benefits of sustainable
technology and also to train students on the construction of new
buildings using modern technologies, and the installation of
environmental improvements in older buildings.
The vision is based on facilities that have been visited in Germany
and a small training facility, which has been developed at West
Suffolk College, as a result of involvement in the part-European
funded Build with CaRe project in which the college is a partner.
The college has already developed partnerships with manufacturers
such as Daikin UK, who are experts in the heat exchange systems
which are at the cutting edge of technology.
As well as training students in build, retrofit, installation and
maintenance of energy efficient systems the college will promote
the messages to a wide range of construction professionals and to
community groups, using inventive displays to demonstrate
environmental impact and cost savings.
The centre is an addition to the College's Construction and
Building Services training facilities, rated Outstanding by OfSTED,
which will be transferring to the new Milburn Centre in Anglian
Lane in
September.
