sportrelieflogo At Waldringfield Primary School, near Woodbridge, pupils had a non uniform day - where they wore something red - and performed a mile long conga around the village.

Headteacher Sarah Wood said: “The whole community came out to support us. It was fantastic, the children really enjoyed it.”

Professional theatre returns to Waldringfield
Eastern Angles

will be presenting their new spring production

"The Long Way Home"

by Charles Way and directed by Naomi James

on Tuesday 23rd March in

Waldringfield Village Hall

Using music, puppetry and traditional storytelling techniques to bring this folktale to life.

The story centres on a spirited old woman and her pilgrimage across country back to the seaside village of her childhood. As she treks across the land the ‘old mother’ meets an abandoned dog-boy and a tender friendship is forged. On the way, the two companions encounter a series of strange and unsettling characters - a distraught mother, a proud farmer, dangerous bandits and ghosts from the past - all fighting their own personal battles.

Charles Way is an award-winning writer of over thirty plays. Eastern Angles audiences will remember his wonderfully atmospheric play In The Bleak Midwinter which toured the East of England back in 2000.

The Long Way Home is directed by Naomi Jones whose record-breaking 2009 Spring Tour Return To Akenfield came to Waldringfield and gained glowing reviews from The Guardian and The Times.

Why not invite some friends and make up a party? And do book in good time – last year’s Eastern Angles visit was a sell-out.

Black & White Productions in association with Bawdsey Radar Trust will bring their latest production to Waldringfield

FIRST IN THE FIELD

The Secrets of Orfordness, Bawdsey and Radar

A new play by Suzanne Hawkes

Village Hall Tues 4th May 7.30pm

An Island of Secrets – rumours of a Death Ray – strange towers rising above the Manor - flashing lights in the dead of night and the ever present threat of invasion. Will life for the villagers of Orford and Bawdsey ever be the same again? And will the boffins come up with a workable plan before the Luftwaffe start their bombing raids in earnest?

Based on written records of the boffins and the oral history of those who worked with them as assistants and radar operators, ferrymen and security guards, this play will dramatise the events leading up to the Battle of Britain as seen through their eyes, and the struggle to develop a working defence chain of radar stations before the threat of German invasion became reality.

Black & White Productions are a community touring theatre company who focus on local history. Their previous performances at Waldringfield include: Mr Dickens – Public Lives Private Passions, and Refugee Cafe

Tickets £8/£7 from 07821162879 or e mail info@bawdseyradar.org.uk
