Children and young people

Our Vision

Our vision is to enable all children and young people in Waveney to aspire to and achieve their full potential, giving them the basis for a successful life as active members of their community.

Our Partnerships

Children and Young People’s Northern Area Executive Group is a partnership between Suffolk County Council, Great Yarmouth and Waveney Primary Care Trust, Young Suffolk, North Lowestoft, South Waveney, and Waveney and Blyth Community Clusters.

Our Priority Actions

We will open 8 Children’s Centres by March 2008 across the 3 Community Clusters in Waveney.

Some will have basic services to help you get childcare, early education and informal health and social support, plus information about where to get other services.

Other children’s centres will have lots of services taking place all the time. These are likely to include:

· child and family health services;
· information for families;
· childcare and early education;
· social care support;
· adult education classes with crèche facilities; and
· support into training and employment for parents who want it.

We plan to open a “crisis crash pad” with 24 hour staffing which will provide safe housing for vulnerable, homeless young people aged 16 –17 in Lowestoft. This will be a safer alternative than Bed and Breakfast accommodation and will accommodate young people from the Waveney area.

Over the next 3 years we plan to build on the success of this year’s Waveney Holiday Activity Scheme in the summer holidays by involving more young people and providing a wider choice of activities.

Waveney Positive Actions for Young People is a group of young people from a range of different organisations, schools and backgrounds that meet and are involved in making decisions about the services and support they need within Waveney. We plan to encourage this group to continue to develop and take responsibility for the Youth Opportunity Fund by identifying positive activities and things to do and support their role as decision makers, grant givers and project leaders.
