Barrel Fair Committee
Teams from The Crown and The White Horse
Joint Winners of the Docwra/Holmes Trophy 2009
The 16th Westleton Barrel Fair was held on
the 16th August 2009. Many people have steadfastly supported the
event from the beginning and much has been achieved over
the years. On an annual basis the Barrel Fair supports
Middleton Primary School and have provided funds to
help purchase cupboards, play equipment etc.
We also support financially the archivists, Penny
Rous and Alison Paul, who maintain a significant amount
of memorabilia at the Village Hall.
The War Memorial Gardens are regularly maintained and each year a
Christmas coffee morning and party for all local children is held
in the Village Hall. The flower tubs around the village were
purchased by the Barrel Fair Committee and with the generosity of
Roger from Bridge Nurseries these provide an eye catching display.
A new seat was purchased for the pond area and additional litter
bins installed, the circular seat on the green was completely
renovated, as was the Village sign.
Some of our elder villagers have enjoyed outings to Norfolk
and Thursford whilst the younger generation were taken on an outing
to Pleasurewood Hills. The Village Hall has benefited from the
installation of a loop system, new notice board and fencing.
Donations were made to both the Millennium Fund and the Golden
Jubilee Celebrations, the WI have received various donations and it
is our policy to provide a raffle prize for Village events.
We have assisted the Parish Council in the purchase of
recreation land for the village.
The committee receive excellent help from local businesses
and organisations, Godfrey and Glynis from the Village
shop distribute programmes and sell raffle tickets on our
behalf as well donating drinks etc. for the day. The Womens
Institute staff the tea tent on Barrel Fair day and the
Westleton Gun Club help us to organise an annual clay pigeon shoot
to raise funds. This years Shoot will be on
Sunday 13th June 2010. We are
delighted that Radio Suffolk will be supporting us again and that
Rob Dunger is excited about opening the event.
The free car park area is courtesy of Mr and Mrs Francis and
Mr and Mrs Baker.
Individual villagers help in many ways including setting up and
running the stalls. The Barrel Fair is the culmination of several
months work by the Committee and supporters - most of the
activities and entertainment are provided free to visitors - we
hope that you will feel the work has been worthwhile and continue
to support us so that we can continue to enhance this lovely
village.
The next Barrel Fair will be held on
Sunday 15th August 2010.
Westleton Women's Institute
Westleton Women's Institute was formed in
1918. Until its demolition in 1968, monthly Institute meetings were
held in a former army hut on The Street, and are now held in the
Village Hall.
The Institute continues to organise social and educational
activities in the spirit of its founding principles and continues
to provide assistance to those in need.
The Institute meets at 7 30 pm in the Village Hall on the first
Tuesday of every month (except January). It is a very friendly
organisation and gives a warm welcome to visitors, guests and
prospective new members.

The course will be
illustrated extensively and will focus on the different ways that
artists convey messages to the viewer through their pictures. It

artists and explain how modern art is both a continuity and a
