In February's Whepstead News

February
takes its name from the Latin "februa", an ancient Roman feast of
expiation and purification. The Anglo-Saxons called it "Solmonath"
or "cake month" because cakes and other offerings were presented to
the gods at this time. Although we in Whepstead are not having any
feasts or offerings this month, we are looking ahead to several
things later in the year. In particular, we will be celebrating the
Queen's Diamond Jubilee on 4th June and will be bringing you more
news of this in the near future. We hope the day will have
something for everyone to enjoy.
Before that, our first event of the year will be
the quiz night on 21st April (look out for details). We also hope
that many of you will support Jenny's quiz night on 17th March in
aid of A2HW.
On behalf of the Community Association, I would
like to thank John & Maureen Orange, who very public spiritedly
cleaned up all the mess and litter along Pages Hill
over the Christmas /New Year holiday period.
Our sincere condolences go to Jim Le-Sage and
family following the sad loss of Shirley.
