Congratulations Alderman
Aitkens
On behalf of
the village we would like to congratulate Nigel
Aitkens who has had the title "Honorary Alderman of
the Borough of St Edmundsbury" bestowed upon
him.
The title was conferred at a special
meeting of the Borough Council on the 13th of
December "In recognition of the eminent
services rendered to the Council by Nigel Baber
Aitkens".
Nigel served 20 years on the Borough
Council being leader during 1993/94, Deputy
Leader for 3 years and on the Cabinet for 4
years.
Besides being Chairman of the Policy
and Resources Committee for 4 years Nigel has
also served on the Policy Development
Committee, Transport and Works Committee and the
Environmental Health Committee before taking
retirement earlier this year.
Nigel is not slowing up yet though
as he is presently Chairman of Suffolk Housing
Society, a full time farmer, a Whepstead Parish
Councillor and in his new role as an Honorary
Alderman may attend and take part in civic ceremonies. Well done
Nigel.
