Most of us are familiar with the idea of lunch clubs run by
volunteers on a regular basis, providing a meal and opportunity to
meet with like minded people. Most lunch clubs cater for around 20
people and meet in village halls, and church and community rooms
and will have around 5 to 10 regular volunteers. However, like most
things, there are many exceptions to these generalisations and we
know of clubs that meet in pubs and local restaurants as well as
lunch clubs which cook for 80 people every week!!
However there are many parts of Suffolk where it may not be
possible to have a lunch club....maybe there is nowhere local to
meet or there aren't enough volunteers or older people to keep a
club viable. If that is the case in your area, we have a new
project, Food 'n Friends, which may be just right for you.
A Food 'n Friends club is just like having a few friends around
for lunch in your own home where the friends are older people. It
can be as little as 2 volunteers and 3 or 4 older people coming for
afternoon tea to 6 to 8 older people having lunch in a home
environment.
If you think you might be interest in starting or going to a
Food 'n Friends club in your local area, we can offer support and
advice right from 'getting started' to 'keeping going' and having
fun on the way!
