Welcome Home Service Volunteer

Are you interested in offering some time but don’t want to be committed to volunteering every week?

The Welcome Home Service is based at the West Suffolk Hospital and we offer support to people over 55, living in Suffolk and being discharged from the hospital. The service is offered for up to eight weeks to help the person to live independently again. It is free of charge to the client.

We employ two Support Workers who visit clients initially. Once the ongoing support the person needs has been established, we sometimes like to be able to ask volunteers to continue to help the person, until the eight weeks are completed. This could be help with shopping, cleaning or just increasing their confidence with a friendly visit to their home. We always try to encourage independence by supporting people to do things, rather than doing it all for them.

We are looking for volunteers throughout West Suffolk. You would only be called upon if there were somebody near you in need of a little support for a few weeks, so it would suit somebody who would like to volunteer but doesn’t want to be tied to helping for a long term period. We particularly need people who can drive and are flexible and reliable. Reasonable expenses are paid monthly and Criminal Record Bureau checks will need to be made.

If you are interested in volunteering or would like to find out more about the service, please contact us, we will welcome your call!
