The purpose of the website is to provide an additional information and communication route for the residents
of the parish in particular and everyone else in general.

in developing or contributing to the site or would like to be involved in any future community activities please Contact us

It would be interesting and useful to know what you think of the website.
It normally has over 200 visits a month so some of you must make use of it - what do you like or dislike and how can it be improved?  Please email your feedback.  Please let us know too if you spot any errors or omissions.

REMEMBER TO LET US KNOW WHAT YOU'RE ARRANGING FOR  2010 SO THAT IT CAN BE INCLUDED ON THE WEBSITE.

BROADBAND SPEED
Does slow Broadband infuriate you?  Pre-empting the Parish Newsletter, because before the end of January would be best, why not help campaign for a decent line speed - complete the survey as the document describes.

PETANQUE - A NEW SPORT FOR THE NEW YEAR?
The Suffolk Coastal Petanque League is encouraging people to take up the sport and form new teams.  Late Sunday morning Petanque matches are typically played in local pubs and the Parrot & Punchbowl Inn, Aldringham, has been invited to join the League.  If you'd like to start playing please register with the League by 10th February.

ARE YOU EXPECTING A TAX REBATE?
Whether or not you are, don't respond to a scam email you may receive, ostensibly from HM Revenue & Customs, advising that you're eligible for a tax rebate.  Suffolk Police have received a warning report about this scam - don't be duped!

Visit the  PICTURE GALLERY to view some interesting photographs of the parish.

THE OGILVIE HALL, THORPENESS, NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT
The Ogilvie Hall provides wonderful grand space for many local activities - theatre, music, religious services, badminton, dances & dinners.  It is independent of local council control and so not a burden on rate payers and visitors who are free to use its facilities as they wish, but as the End of Decade Report shows it needs local support.  Regular and extraordinary events take place at the Hall - see the Community Groups and Events pages for details, or contact Sharon at the Club on 01728 452014 for information or to book the Hall for your function.

ANNUAL THORPENESS SPRING BEACH CLEAN
Recent gales have brought in a huge amount of rubbish to the beach, so the Spring Beach Clean on Good Friday, 2nd April is much needed.  Meet at the Dolphin Inn at 10.30am for refreshments and to collect pickers, etc. returning for more refreshments at noon.  Please let Bill Crow know if you'll be there, on 01728 454641.

THORPENESS CONSERVATION AREA is currently under review by Suffolk Coastal District Council which is asking for views on it's draft appraisal of the village.  The appraisal tries to define the special character of the conservation area and makes interesting reading.  Please send your views on the appraisal by email to conservation@suffolkcoastal by 28th February 2010 or by post to the Conservation Team, Suffolk Coastal District Council, Melton Hill, Woodbridge,
IP12 1AU.

THORPENESS QUIET GARDEN
When the weather becomes more clement you may wish for some peace in the Quiet Garden in Thorpeness.  You will be made welcome - just phone 01728 454613.

WHEN YOU SHOP ONLINE WHY NOT SUPPORT
THE RURAL COFFEE CARAVAN INFORMATION PROJECT?

Do you want to catch the online sales or just have a supermarket delivery?  If you shop online you can generate donations to local and national charities by simply shopping through www.TheGivingMachine.co.uk.  Select the charities you wish to support, choose from over 200 online shops registered with the site, most of those you'd use anyway, and shop as you would normally.  It costs you nothing - the online store donates.

Do you have the time to be a GOOD NEIGHBOUR?
The GOOD NEIGHBOUR SCHEME has been running in the Parish for 22 months, during which time volunteers have completed over 102 tasks, 50 in the last six months.  The Scheme is obviously appreciated, and as more help is requested more volunteers are needed!  If you have some spare time and could undertake some of the types of assistance offered by the Scheme to people in Aldringham and Thorpeness please email the website for further information.

ALDRINGHAM RAINFALL
Rainfall around the Parish seems to vary - if you'd like to see records from near the Aldeburgh Road in Aldringham, look at the Environment page.

SIZEWELL C NUCLEAR NEW BUILD - EDF CONSULTATION
Sizewell has been named by the Government as a site that is strategically suitable for a new nuclear power station.  EDF will be consulting on its proposals before submitting a planning application for Sizewell C in 2011.  As they begin the consultation process EDF wants to find out the views of the community.  The website  www.sizewell.edfconsultation.info
provides information and gives you the opportunity to have your say.

SIZEWELL PARISHES LIAISON GROUP
At the beginning of the year a group including representation from all the Parish Councils in the area around Sizewell were brought together to discuss their common interest in the development of a further Power Station at Sizewell.  It was agreed to form a liaison group with the following aims and objectives.

AIMS: to act as a coordinating Group - to encourage investment by EDF and government in the local infrastructure.

OBJECTIVES:  Infrastructure concerns to include - Transport (Road, Rail and Sea); Education and Training; Conservation; Preservation of rural identity and Leisure and Social Welfare.

The Group has now had several meetings, has met with EDF and is looking for the Parishes to collect any views or comments related to the infrastruture topics.  If you have any comments please forward them to one of your Parish Councillors.
Eric Atkinson
