Corton Football Club was founded in 1902 by the local Rector as a
way of giving the "Lads of the Village" a game of football. The
Village Playing Field where they started all those years ago is
still the home of today’s crop of up and coming talent.
Over the years the Club enjoyed reasonable success at District
League level with both the First and Reserve teams winning their
respective Divisions on several occasions and also the
League Cup and John Moore Shield.
Then in 1982 the club committee made the decision to raise the
standards and take the First Team into the Anglian Combination
League. After some near misses, senior football was achieved by
finishing champions of Division Two in 2007/08 and we now
compete in Division One. The Cyril Ballyn Trophy (Junior
League Cup) was also won for the first time in season
2007/08.
The Reserves meanwhile are in Division Five of the Anglian
Combination League, stepping up from Division Six.
The A side compete in Division Two of the Lowestoft &
District League.
Though the facilities provided today are a far cry from those
early days, there are plans to upgrade the current pavilion to
match the club’s achievement of senior status and with the
commitment of a hard working Playing Field Committee this will
hopefully happen sooner rather than later.
Our club is kindly sponsored by Glen High who runs "The Ole
Frank" public house in Gorleston Road, Oulton
Broad. | |
