Corton Football Club was founded in 1902 by the local Rector as
a way of giving the "Lads of the Village" a game of football. The
Village Playing Field where they started all those years ago is
still the home of today’s crop of up and coming talent.
Over the years the Club enjoyed reasonable success at District
League level with both the First and Reserve teams winning their
respective Divisions on several occasions and also the
League Cup and John Moore Shield.
Then in 1982 the club committee made the decision to raise the
standards and take the First Team into the Anglian Combination
League. After some near misses, senior football will be played next
season on the Playing Field for the first time in the club's 107
years history. This was achieved by finishing champions of
Division Two last season. The Cyril Ballyn Trophy (Junior League
Cup) was also won for the first time.
The Reserves meanwhile have been elected to Division Six of the
Angliam Combination League.
A newly formed A side will compete in Division Two of the Lowestoft
& District League.
A veterans side for over-35s was formed in 2000 and became
founder members of the Norfolk & Suffolk Veterans' Football
League. They have floated between the 1st and 3rd divisions in that
time and are currently in Division Three (South).
Though the facilities provided today are a far cry from those
early days, there are plans to upgrade the current pavilion to
match the club’s achievement of senior status and with the
commitment of a hard working Playing Field Committee this will
hopefully happen sooner rather than later.
Our club is kindly sponsored by Glen High who runs "The Ole
Frank" public house in Gorleston Road, Oulton
Broad. | |
